Blog & Business Goals
I’ve been doing a lot thinking recently about my plans for the future, specifically, for the future of my blog. I want to treat my blog like a business. I want to grow, and invest in it.
So, I’ve decided to lay out my business plans for you guys. This is so you all can see what my plans are/get inspired to make some plans of your own.
Create an e-course on something
So, this is an idea that has been running through my head for awhile now. I want to do an e-course. I want to teach you guys something interesting/get more involved on my blog.
I haven’t yet decided on a course topic. I don’t know if I want to do one about poetry, writing, gardening, ethical living, etc. There are dozens of ideas crossing my mind; I just don’t know which will be best. If you guys have any ideas or recommendations please let me know in the comments!
I’ve heard a lot of good things about e-courses, and I’ve taken a few myself. For bloggers, it’s a good way to grow an audience as well as a way to engage with them. From a consumer perspective, it’s fun! And you get to learn new things at a cheaper cost than taking a class somewhere else!
Create something physical to sell
This is another idea that has been crossing my mind as of late. I want to sell some physical products other than just my poetry book. Of course, my poetry book is my baby and I will continue to promote it until the end of times, but I also want to create something else for you guys.
I’ve thought about stickers, T-shirt’s, pintable's, art, and just about everything in between. I’m leaning towards tying my poetry into it all since I am a word-lover by heart.
Get poetry book in stores
This is actually at the top of my to-do list if I’m being honest. I’ve read a lot of articles about how crucial it is to get your book into physical stores. I’ve sort of been waiting for my sales to grow a little bit. This is because I’m afraid most places won’t be interested in a brand new author who doesn’t have a very big audience.
I’m still working on growing my audience. It’s a bit harder than I expected it to be, if I’m being honest. And my own fear is preventing me from tackling the write-ups and business plans necessary to get my books into stores.
So yeah, this is at the front of my to-do list. I just need to find the courage to send the emails.
Get at least 200 subscribers to email list
This one, personally, seems to be the hardest for me. I don’t know why. I hate pushing myself and my products onto people, and asking people to subscribe to my content almost feels selfish.
Therefore, I’m looking into ways to add rewards/perks for people who subscribe to my blog. One of them is a promo code for my book (it’s not out yet but I’m still working on it!).
I believe that signing up for something should give consumers benefits and discounts that non-subscribers don’t receive. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Have 1k followers on Instagram
At the moment, I only have about 300 followers on Instagram. My goal is to improve my reach and audience to 1k by the end of the year. Is this achievable? I have no idea.
Growing my audience would help me a lot in order to promote my book, among other things. I really like to engage with my viewers and followers and I want to expand the amount of people I get in contact with.
From a blogging standpoint, this is probably one of the most preached things for a blogger to do. Grow your following! This is a business, I’ve got to reach out.
Twitter/Facebook 200+ followers
I’m still new to the Twitter and Facebook world. To be clear, Twitter and Instagram are my main social media sites. Facebook is sort of secondary for me. However, I’m going to start posting all of my Instagram content to Facebook so that, again, I can have a bigger reach.
I know most of my audience tends to trend towards the younger side (18-25), however, I know perfectly well that not everyone is an avid attender to Twitter or Instagram so it’s good to have another social site where people can reach me.

Finish another book
Alright, so this is the last goal of mine for 2019. For those of you who follow me on insta, you probably know about my next creative work. I haven’t revealed any details yet other than “I’m working on another project.”
Well know, I’m revealing that I am indeed writing another book.
This will not be a poetry book (though I am consider doing another one in the next year or two), rather, it will be more of a nonfiction/memoir ordeal. I’m actually not sure how the genre will be defined. It’s more of a contemporary type of novel based on personal experience.
That’s all I’ll reveal for now. Though, I will continue to give updates as the book progresses!
These are my goals for the next eight months. A lot will be happening in my life during this time so, we’ll see how this goes.
I’ll be moving to Chicago in late July, early August (hopefully around then) and will start school in September. I know it will be harder to juggle a job, school, homework, a book, AND my blog at that time. However, I have faith that I can create a decent schedule to handle it.
If you guys have any questions please leave them in the comments below or send me an email at info.amelia.wilson@gmail.com!
I’d love to hear any ideas or recommendations as far as e-courses go! And let me know if you’re interested in seeing some physical items in my store (other than my book)!
You can also subscribe to my newsletter for discounts and promos! (They’ll be coming out shortly. I’ll keep you updated!)
