The Reason Behind my Blog's Title
I follow a lot of other bloggers whose blog titles are something different than the site owner’s name. I’ve noticed that many of these blogs have a post dedicated to the reasons behind the title name. Naturally, I’ve decided to partake in this trend and hopefully provide more insight behind my blog!
My blog’s title is Blog to Being.
I opted against using my name as the blog’s title
Honestly, this is due to the fact that it looked funny to me on the homepage of my blog. I know this is an easy fix, but for some reason I’m too stubborn to mess with the font size for the title. I can’t explain it, but for some crazy reason, I really like the current font size. Also, if I were to use my name, I would want a fancier font for my blog’s title. And I don’t know...it just didn’t look quite right on my blog, given the current theme.
So, I haven’t used my name as a blog title. Another reason is because, though this is my website, as in: this is the site where I will market myself and my works, I wanted to keep my blog separate from my other business products/services. This one is hard to understand considering most people market their name with their business/blog. I guess I just wanted to be different.
Neil Gaiman is one of my all-time favorite authors and his website is set up in a similar fashion with his “journals” (blog) being separate from the rest of his site. Mine just happens to be the reverse of that.
So, where did the idea behind “Blog to Being” come from?
I honestly don’t remember. I DO know, however, that it was created around the time I was first making my blog. I use Blogger as my host platform. Blogger asks you to create a blog title right away, so I remember feeling pressured to come up with a clever title. At the time (and sadly, this was only four months ago), I didn’t have much experience in the “blogging world.” I knew it was common to have a blog title that was short, clever, and in your niche, so I started with that.
I didn’t know using your own name as a blog title was a thing until fairly recently.
So, I asked myself, what is my niche? How can I tie that into my title? I quickly found that my niche was hard to define. Am I an ethical blog? A plant blog? A writing blog? A book blog? A travel blog? All of the above? Is that okay?
I had read about Lifestyle blogs (which is how I will categorize mine), but most of those still contained some sort of cohesive niche. This is great because say you had a lifestyle blog dedicated to life while travelling, people who are interested in one of your posts can follow to others and potentially end up following your entire blog. Basically, what I’m trying to say is that having a more defined niche attracts more subscribers and attention than one that is all over the place.
My blog is not that kind of blog.
My blog is all over the place.
So now we’re back to the question, what is my niche? I decided that I wasn’t going to restrict my blog to ONE topic. I’m multi-faceted and I felt the need to talk about anything and everything that inspires me. My niche is described as lifestyle. So, my blog is a lifestyle blog.
Great. Now I know my niche. But what about my blog’s title?
I messed around with a lot of words and variations. I ended up arriving at the title “Blog to Being” because I thought: This is a blog. This is where I start. I plan to become something. I plan to be more than just a blog. Blog to Being.
And so that was taken care of. I couldn’t afford a domain at the time so I ended up with am-wils.blogspot.com, using my name as a sort of marketing strategy to bring it all back to me.
My title is Blog to Being. But what do I plan to do with it?
Once I had my title, I began to build my blog. It’s still very disorganized with tons of random posts that aren’t necessarily cohesive… The words “Blog to Being” represent a process to me. This is all a process. I didn’t know how to code a website, build themes, affiliate market, or how to utilize SEO. I didn’t know any of that starting out. So Blog to Being really does represent growth to me.
I’m hoping I can keep expanding my blog. I hope I can eventually market myself and my products with it once I publish my first book. I want to start creating more cohesive cover photos, and a more organized site in general. It will take time. But that’s what my blog is all about.
Will I. one day, change my blog’s title?
It’s hard to say. I don’t know if I’ll end up changing my blog’s title. If I do, it would be to my own name. If anything, I would most likely make a separate website and link my blog to it. However, I’m not ready for that yet. I still want to build my website as much as possible. As of now, I like my blog’s title. I like what it represents and I appreciate that it keeps things moderately separated on my site.
For now, it will remain “Blog to Being.”
