It's a little late in the month, but I've decided to start a blog series about what I'm reading each month. I know I personally struggle with finding new books to read that I find interesting. So, I hope that by posting my reads each month, I will help some of you find some good book choices.
For the longest time, there was quite a romantic idea about being a princess and being saved by a brave knight in armor. To be fair, a lot of fairy tales were written by men, so there’s no question that the man in the story would be the one doing the saving.
This isn’t a bad thing, and it makes sense. People tend to write in a way that puts the protagonist in a “savior-like” role, and typically, the protagonist is a reflection of the story’s writer. So it’s understandable that at the time most fairy tales were written, their stories would be about knights saving princesses.
Deciding to take a gap year was probably one of the most life-changing choices I've ever made. It was a choice that would end up molding, defining, and changing who I am and the way I perceive living.
About two years ago, I embarked on a wonderful journey of learning how to keep something alive and happy without losing my mind, learning how to feed it, water it, and make time for it—I became a plant mom.
I have learned quite a few things about taking care of plants since then. My mini garden has grown into about seven plants (all of which at the moment are succulents) and I intend to obtain more. I was never one with a green thumb and I know many people out there feel the same. But taking care of plants can be easier than you think. I'm going to list below the best plants for indoor use.
I don't think I've ever been a huge astrology buff. I discovered my astrological sign about five or six years ago and it's certainly aided me on my journey to find my identity. Back then, I introduced a friend of mine to the world of zodiac and she instantly became obsessed. She is an Aquarius while I'm a Scorpio. She holds a lot of stock in the typical traits of her sun sign and what her daily scope predicts for her.
This is the second blog I've ever created. So, as an introduction I want to point out that I am by no means an expert in the ways of blogging. I created my first blog at the age of thirteen and needless to say, it tanked (I was terrible at keeping up with it). Now, I've decided to pick up the art of blogging in the hopes that it will benefit me some way in the long run: whether that be mentally, physically, or spiritually.
I am currently nineteen years old and living in a small apartment with two roommates in Greenwood, Indiana. I'm currently in my gap year and I've been introduced (or forcefully thrown, depending on whose asking) into the real world. I work at a job for forty hours a week. I have a boyfriend. I pay bills. I am always on the move, crunching too much in to my already busy schedule. And I constantly struggle to figure out what to cook for dinner! Thus, I have decided to entertain a new hobby.
On this blog, I plan to express my interests, offer tips and tricks, and discuss the many things I wish I would have known before I became a "real" adult (I'm sorry, but you are not an adult until you work a nine to five job and pay bills). I plan to write about my experiences in places like Costa Rica and Montana, as well as blog about any other life changing trips I've taken. I will write about "adulting" such as: finding an apartment, getting a new car, balancing work with fun. Of course, I also want to express myself with writing hacks, plant/garden tricks, ways to save money, methods to treat oneself, and nifty places to visit when calming down and relaxing is important.
Five months from now, I will be moving to Chicago, IL for school. So, expect plenty of blogs about that journey!
Anyhow, I just want to reiterate that this is a blog of firsts and I hardly know what I'm doing, but I think it'll be worth it in the end.
Definitely.
